BOLTON Sailing Club racing began at 12 noon for the four most fiercely contested club trophies. The Belmont Dragon is sailed for by the top helms and crews from all the fleets as a handicap race.
The Catlow Trophy, the Middleton and Mellor Trophy and Hamilton Trophy are sailed for by the less proficient, but no less competitive, sailors from the GP, Handicap and Merlin fleets respectively.
The weather started with a south south east wind of force three to four which was steady in direction for the first race. During the second race, the wind increased to force five plus and some competitors struggled a little. Race three saw a sudden increase in force up to six with prolonged gusts at seven leading to some spectacular capsizes.
