BURY'S search for a new striker could mean a welcome return for a Gigg Lane old boy.

Dean Crowe has already spent two loans spells with the Shakers but, boss Andy Preece has revealed, he could be in line for another.

Bury are desperate to add more firepower to their squad and after being unsuccessful in their bid to bring in a Premiership striker on loan, Stoke City forward Crowe could fit the bill.

He first played for the Shakers at the end of last season and became an instant crowd favourite for his effort and attitude but a serious leg injury put paid to any hopes of a permanent move.

Crowe regained his fitness during the pre-season and arrived at Bury again on loan. But because of the Shakers glorious start to the new campaign when they raced to the top of the league he didn't really get a chance to shine, scoring just once after coming on as a substitute against Wrexham.

But the striker - who cannot break into Stoke City's first team - lives locally in Stockport and would jump at the chance of returning to Gigg after thoroughly enjoying his other spells at the club.

"He is a good player and a good lad and he was unfortunate not to get more chances earlier in the season when he was here on loan," said Preece.

"If he gets one or two games under his belt and looks fit I'd have no hesitation in bringing him back.

"He is playing in the reserves for Stoke this week and we'll be keeping an eye on him."

After failing to land Manchester United pair David Healy and Alex Notman and missing out on Nottingham Forest foward Dougie Freedman, Preece may decide to make a move for Crowe sooner rather than later.

Darren Bullock is facing a race against time to be fit for Saturday's match at Wycombe. The midfielder has been missed since he tore a thigh muscle a month ago.
