YOUNG musicians from Bolton will be appearing at Manchester's Bridgewater Hall for a world premiere performance of a new work by a fledgling composer.
Pupils at Bolton music School will be joining the region's flagship chamber orchestra, Manchester Camerata, to play 21-year-old student Benjamin Wallfisch's "Sudden Light".
The piece was commissioned by the Camerata to complement its 50th anniversary performance of Vaughan Williams' 'Concerto Grosso'.
The students, together with children from Trafford, Oldham, Manchester and Salford, will play the strings part of the two pieces. And Laura Henthorne, schools liaison officer at the Bolton Music Service, said: "It will be a wonderful night of entertainment and the children have been rehearsing hard.
"We have a lot of outside contacts such as with the Halle Orchestra and the BBC Philamonic and it's always a pleasure to take part in these performances."
Vaughan Williams' composition traditionally included amateur performers among the ranks of professional musicians and Benjamin Wallfisch's piece will follow this trend.
Mr Wallfisch is currently in his final year studying composition at the Royal Northern College of Music.
He said: "I am very excited by this project. It is wonderful to be working with such high-calibre musicians and that so many local young players will also be involved in the performance."
The concert, which takes place on November 18, at 7.30pm, will also include Williams' 'Fantastia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis' and Beethoven's 'Fifth Symphony'.
