WHEELTON landlord Brian Platt is celebrating after being presented with a Grand Mastercellarman award by brewer John Smith's.
Brian, who has been landlord of the Red Lion for eight years, scooped his third consecutive Mastercellar award in the annual scheme -- thus winning the ultimate accolade.
He said: "It feels like a real achievement. I was very proud to be nominated three years running, and to win the Grand Mastercellarman award is a real honour.
"It is nice to know that John Smith's are rewarding people for all their hard work."
And Brian's tips for other would-be winners?
"You have to look after your beer and make sure you clean the pipes," said Brian.
"You are not told when a mystery drinker is coming to check the beer.
"That is why it is so important that you have to get into the same routine, week in, week out."
Gareth Berry, John Smith's sales manager, said: "Mastercellar awards are only presented to people who maintain the very highest standards in all aspects of cellar management, ensuring that customers receive John Smith's cask conditioned ales at their very best.
"Brian joins an elite group to be presented with a Grand Mastercellarman award."
