POLICE have launched an arson after a carpet was set on fire in a Ladybridge flat. Firefighters from Bolton Central were called to the three-storey flats in Broadgate House off Beaumont Road, at 1am on Sunday after a resident heard a smoke alarm in the flat below.
A spokesman for the fire brigade said: "The neighbour could also smell smoke so called us.
"There was nobody in the flat when we arrived but the resident said she heard people moving about just before the alarm sounded.
"The fire is being treated as suspicious because there is no other way it could have been started."
