I WAS both honoured and delighted to be invited to judge the entries for the annual art exhibition and I found no problem in selecting an attractive range of subjects and techniques.

The Bolton Art Circle membership is expanding all the time and, consequently, more pictures are submitted for the exhibition.

Now I did find a problem. I was asked to 'reject' 28 pictures because there was shortage of space. The gallery is occupied by National Exhibitions, which take priority and can last for several weeks.

The Art Circle has now been relegated to the landing outside the gallery, which I can only describe as 'makeshift'.

And so, can the gallery organisers please try to accommodate the Art Circle in more congenial and aesthetic conditions next year?

Rejection slips are fair comment, but rejection slips through lack of space are most unfortunate.
