RIVINGTON Music Society are delighted to have the Sorrel String Quartet playing at their Autumn Celebrity Concert this Friday at Rivington Parish Church.
This all female quartet have been established since 1987 and are one of the UK's leading ensembles.
Their programme will be Haydn's Op. 76 No. 2 and the Quartets of Elgar and Debussy.
The Sorrel perform regularly at all the major British and world venues and festivals and broadcast frequently on BBC Radio 3 and the World Service.
They are currently Quartet in Residence at the Universities of Leeds, Newcastle and Bristol. They also give regular masterclasses both at home and abroad and are tutors in Chamber Music at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Recent highlights include performances of the complete cycle of Shostakovich Quartets, concerts at the Wigmore Hall and South Bank, participation in the RNCM Quartetfest 2000 and broadcasts from the London and Cheltenham Festivals.
Their recordings for the Chandos label have received critical acclaim and their first CD of the Shostakovich Quartets was Classic FM Record of the Year 1999 in the modern section.
