Karen Done Bolton Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Paul Payton, is playing on Saturday at the Albert Halls, Bolton.
In addition to the colourful and exotic orchestral showpiece Scheherazade, by Rimsky-Korsakov, the orchestra will be performing works by two local musicians.
Fanfare for the Millennium Grand Celebration For Bolton, by Michael J. Lyons is a piece commissioned especially for the orchestra.
Michael enjoys a growing reputation as a composer and arranger and is a highly respected trumpet and flugelhorn player. He has played all over the North-west and was a founder member of Corus Brass and the brass section of Bolton Symphony Orchestra.
This clever composition is based around the capital letters of the title - G, C, F, B - and is scored for trumpets, trombones, horns, tuba and percussion.
The Soft Moon, by Karen Done, was inspired by a chapter from the book Time and the Hunter by Italo Calvino.
Karen studied music at Liverpool University and is now a Principal Officer in the Regeneration section of the Chief Executive's Support Team at Bolton Council.
Paul Payton and Karen Done will be giving a pre-concert talk about The Soft Moon at 6.30pm in the Albert Halls.
Bolton Symphony Orchestra has continued to grow from strength to strength since its formation in 1993.
Earlier this year Paul Payton and Bolton Symphony Orchestra, in collaboration with instrumentalists and singers from across the North-west, enjoyed tremendous success with their performance of Mahler 8 at the Bridgewater Hall.
Tickets for the concert, which starts at 7.30pm are available from the Bolton Ticket and Information Centre at the Albert Halls, telephone 01204 334400.
