AN off-duty rookie cop has been commended by Welsh police chiefs after he helped snare a suspected shoplifting gang.
Swinton officer PC Keith Chapman was shopping with his wife in Wrexham when he followed two men who were acting suspiciously.
The suspects met up with a woman and handed her something which she concealed in her jacket before joining two other women, one of whom was in a wheelchair.
PC Chapman kept the trio under watch before arresting them on suspicion of shoplifting.
Now North Wales police chiefs have written to praise PC Chapman, and Salford Divisional Commander Chief Supt Chris Wells has added his own official commendation.
