A BOLTON youngsters is continuing to recover in hospital after an horrific fireworks accident left him needing surgery.
Andrew Worden, 12, was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital on Saturday after an industrial firework exploded in his hand. Andrew, of Victory Road, Little Lever, had been playing with two friends at the rear of Little Lever's Kwik Save store just after noon on Saturday when the firework went off.
Police say he suffered burns to his hands and his right ear and, after being admitted to the Royal Bolton, he was later transferred to the plastic surgery unit at Withington Hospital where he has since undergone a number of operations.
The hospital described Andrew as "comfortable" and his parents, Graham and Janet Worden, have been at his side throughout his ordeal. Police believe Andrew and his friends may have found the explosive which could have been left over from an organised display.
