Turton'S Mr Swimming, Ronnie Hart, was overwhelmed when a girl he last knew when she was six presented him with a life-time achievement trophy.
Ronnie was given the trophy by Shelly Woods -- now aged 32.
And she also presented him with a photo taken by a BEN photographer showing him teaching her to swim in 1974.
Ronnie hadn't even realised Shelly was at the 30th anniversary celebration gala at Turton Swimming Pool, Bromley Cross, until she presented the award.
Ronnie, who was made life-president, set up the Turton Swimming Club in the old Egerton Baths in 1970.
The club members moved to Turton Swimming Baths when the facility first opened.
Deborah Duckett, volunteer, said: "It was a fantastic night. Ronnie was so surprised to see Shelly because of course he remembers her as a little girl.
"Everybody had a great time and watched some excellent swimming in the galas on the night."
An award for best performance was presented on the night to young swimming sensation Catherine Howard, who has been tipped as an Olympic star of the future.
The nine-year-old won her heats in the swimming gala which included scores of children ages four to nine.
The club wants volunteer swimming helpers -- who will get discounts on their children's swimming lessons -- to come forward.
