BURY boss Andy Preece has issued a stern warning to his defenders : "Make any more mistakes and you'll lose your place."
Preece is sick to the teeth of losing games because of individual errors and losses of concentration and he has warned his team to cut it out.
The last minute defeat at Wycombe was a prime example of the recent slump. The Shakers played well and were heading for a fine draw but lost with 60 seconds left after Wycombe defender Jamie Bates was given time and space inside the area to head home a header from a corner.
"These mistakes are costing us dear and we are trying to find out why our players keep making these errors," said the Bury boss.
"If it was just one person I could drop them but it's different players making mistakes and losing concentration each week.
"To lose two goals from set pieces on Saturday hurts because it's something we work on during the week and we all know where we should be when we're defending corners.
"If people keep making these mistakes they will lose their place because it is costing us points. If we hadn't made these mistakes we would have more points and be far higher up the league."
Preece, however, was pleased with the majority of the Wycombe performance and was especially delighted with striker Paul Barnes.
Recalled for the first time since the home match with Bournemouth - when he was booed by the fans - the experienced forward gave 100 per cent and was unlucky not to score.
"I decided to play Barnesy instead of myself because I think he adds more movement than me," explained Preece. "I thought he did very well on Saturday and it was nice to see the fans getting behind him and applauding him off the pitch
"He didn't do a lot wrong so he is definitely in with a shout for the cup game against Northwich Vics on Saturday."
Darren Bullock came through a full training session yesterday and barring any further setbacks the midfielder is almost a certainty to start against Northwich. Matt Barrass is out for at least another two weeks.
