LAST week, taking place in the Town Hall was a public inquiry. The Planning Committee in their wisdom did turn it down.
At the inquiry last week the Barrister, the Planning Department, Stuart Perigo all did an excellent job of putting the case against an extension to the Harwood Quarry.
This HOLE, and that's what it is, is being made deeper and deeper, and wider and wider, with nothing going back in. No wonder it is unsafe.
Now this is a conservation area. Countryside at its best. Scenic footpaths, lots of mature trees, with bats (protected species). A farm house let to go to ruin, and it is quite likely that this farm house, trees, and footpaths, will all disappear down this big HOLE
As for the residents of Brookfold Lane, they must be devastated. Heavy goods vehicles in and out of the quarry are going to be increased by 48 per cent.
Waggons have been going up and down this country lane for years, but not to this extent. If this extension to this Quarry gets the go-ahead, there will be three waggons in, and three waggons out again every hour.
All of this is up a country lane, cottages on one side with residents having to park cars in front of the houses. Five hundred vehicles will be passing a week, at all times of day, and all passing a primary school
The residents of Brookfold Lane, and in fact Harwood, need this extension like a hole in the head.
