FARNWORTH spiritualists say setting up home in a former chapel of rest means they will always have someone to talk to!
But as church members celebrate establishing a new base after a 21-year search, they have to face a new challenge.
The congregation must find the cash to convert the chapel and comply with the stringent conditions attached to the planning consent.
Spokesman Sue Daubney explained: "We were delighted to finally find a home for the church, and to get planning permission.
"But the conditions imposed have proved to be a massive setback. We have to find funds to soundproof the building."
In addition, the church must provide car parking on the site at Peel Street, Farnworth, which will mean demolishing derelict garages in the yard.
Sue said: "We had intended being in before Christmas, but that is now impossible. The work will get done, but it is going to be hard.
"A former chapel of rest is the perfect place for us. We love the irony. One of our members said 'at least we will always have someone to chat to'.
"It is really peaceful here and we felt as if we were coming home from day one.
"Being here means we will be able to extend our activities. We have been so limited but will now be able to start counselling services, and develop our group for people training to become spiritualist healers.
"We already have a waiting list for the training course."
The church's success in finding a new home comes after four previous failed attempts.
Members currently meet twice a week, on Wednesday and Saturday nights. Further information about church activities can be obtained from Sue on 01204 578293.
