WHEN Eric Morley died, he had started to write his autobiography.

No, I'm not talking about the Eric "Miss World" Morley who passed away last week, but Eric "Bolton Gate Co" Morley, who died in 1987.

Mr Morley was one of Bolton's most successful self-made men, and built up the world-wide company from nothing. He was in personal control of the firm he helped to found at the age of 18 for 60 years.

Bolton Gate was sold to the Tarmac Group in 1984, but a couple of subsidiary firms he founded were not included in the sale.

Over the years, Mr Morley was a member of numerous local organisations, and large numbers of local people must have memories and anecdotes about him.

And it is from those people that Mr Morley's daughter Jean Dale wants to hear, not only from business associates, but also those who came into other personal sections of his life.

She has decided now that the book started by her father should be completed, and would like to hear from anyone who can recall details about him.

"There must be lots of stories that people could tell me," she comments. Certainly many people must remember Mr Morley. At a recent reunion of former employees of the Bolton Gate Company, so many people wanted to go that they could not all be accommodated.

If anyone can help Jean, please preferably write to her at 211 Clifton Drive South, Lytham St Annes. Lancs, FY8 1EY, or phone her on 01253 724749.
