A FAIR old time was had by Adlington folk at the weekend.

At a busy Christmas fair at the United Reformed church, Railway Road, Adlington on Saturday afternoon, volunteers from both Adlington Methodist and Adlington URC raised a heavenly £1700 for church funds.

The churches joined together for worship and the fair after the closure of the Methodist building.

A spokesman for the fair said: "This is our one big event during the year so we put all our effort into it. We call it a Christmas fair -- even though Christmas is a little way off -- and it was to raise funds for church."

Attractions included craft and cake stalls, and items such as cosmetics, glassware and candles were also for sale. She added: "The children's organisation had a tombola, and we had a Christmas stall.

"We are very pleased with the amount raised. It's just a little bit up on last year. It was a very successful day." FAIR folk: Marjorie Prescott and Mary Hambley manning a stall.
