OLDER people in Bolton who switch to the 'total care' gas and electricity package offered by Age Concern Energy Services will receive two free energy lamps to help them save even more on bills this winter.
Gareth Evans, Age Concern Bolton's Chief Officer, explained: "This package is the product of a partnership between Age Concern and Powergen, one of the country's leading power businesses.
"Through it, we're able to offer better value gas and electricity, free safety products and, for a limited period, two free low-energy lamps worth about £9 each.
"We're delighted that increasing numbers of older people are switching to Age Concern Energy Services, an energy package designed specifically with their needs in mind.
"The offer of the free lamps is an incentive and a way of thanking customers for switching to the package. Not only will they help older people save money, but they'll also help to protect the environment."
Mike Newell, Powergen's energy efficiency manager, added: "A low-energy lamp uses 80 per cent less energy than a conventional light bulb -- and it lasts up to 15 times longer.
"Someone using a low-energy lamp instead of an ordinary light bulb for an average of five hours a day could save about £10 a year on their electricity bills."
The 20-watt lamps on offer come with a five-year guarantee and are designed for parts of the home where light is needed for long periods -- such as hallways, lounges or even security lights.
