SANTA Claus has been kidnapped by a gang of business students aiming to raise cash for a children's hospital ward!
Staff and students at Bolton College have been warned they must contribute to the ransom or face waking up on Christmas Day with no presents in their stockings.
All the money raised will go towards paying for fibre optic equipment and toys which were stolen by thieves from the Royal Bolton Hospital's Children's Ward.
The teenagers intended to put poor Santa on display today -- gagged and trussed up -- parading him around the Manchester Road campus, demanding money for his release.
Elaine Allen, social organiser for the college, said the first year GNVQ Advanced Business Studies students were looking forward to their day of fun at Father Christmas's expense. She added: "Everyone at the college is going to have to dig deep or they may not be getting any Christmas presents this year. The students are really up for it."
The teenagers, aged 16 and 17, are organising various events for the children's ward after hearing about their toys being stolen. The group has already raised £120 for a raffle which will feature excellent prizes donated by companies and stores in the town.
They set an initial target of £200, but are hoping to raise more than that by organising a bowling competition at the Hollywood Bowl at Middlebrook. The students are currently looking for teams who want to take part. Admission is £5 per player, which includes two games.
