I REFER to the report regarding the Planning Meeting of November 2, and the rejection by the Committee of the proposed building of 18 apartments adjacent to Lostock Junction Station, and, in particular, of the reporting of Cllr Williamson's remarks, which were frivolous in the extreme. Perhaps you gave too much prominence to his rather cheap brand of humour. A maverick perhaps?
Yes, the Lostock area is under attack by developers. The biggest problem this is causing is that of excessive traffic. These apartments would, no doubt, generate another 40 cars, access to which is both difficult and dangerous, to the extent that the station car park would have to be utilised. This is a serious problem, an accident has already recently occurred at this position, and several more have happened along nearby Glengarth Drive.
The local residents are far from being 'a little bit small minded', but are quite rightly resisting further development, which would exacerbate existing problems. This is not helped by shallow, irresponsible remarks, made by a councillor from a distant ward.
