ROUND Three for the Lancashire FA Amateur Challenge Shield is scheduled for tomorrow but many clubs around the North West are still trying to stage second round games.
This will be the fourth consecutive occasion the heavy midweek rain has those ties in doubt. Adding to the headache of these recurring postponements for club officials is the worry of the growing backlog of league fixtures which will have to be scheduled in somewhere along the line - most likely next April when teams could be playing three - or maybe four - matches a week!
Looking to finally cross swords tomorrow are Blackrod Town and Atherton Town, Hindsford who travel up to Lancaster to play Slyne with Hest, Turton are at Wigan Rovers, Eagley at home to New Vic and old Bolton Combination rivals Walkden and Hindley Green who clash at Harriet Street.
Ramsbottom United travel to Kidsgrove Athletic in the North West Counties League Division One with midfielders Andy Grimshaw and recent signing from Colne, Barry White, set to start seven day suspensions on Sunday. Manager Ken Bridge is already denied the services of long term injury absentees Dave Roach and Warren Brierley but utility man Danny Goodall is available again after serving out his suspension.
Daisy Hill travel to Warrington Town for a Division Two fixture without sidelined Paul Prescot and ankle injury victim John Keary. One player who won't be too upset should this fixture be postponed is striker Adam Entwistle who finishes his massive six week suspension this weekend and has yet to miss out on a single game because of the weather!
Assistant manager Brian Smith said " Everyone is getting really frustrated at not playing but the playing surface at Warrington is quite good so we are extremely hopeful of the game being on."
An injury in training on Tuesday resulted in Danny Wadeson dislocating his finger and he is extremely doubtful for tomorrow's match.
Atherton Colls are away at Flixton in Division One. Manager Chris O'Brien will be looking to add to his squad after the transfer during the week of highly rated defender Paul Cox to Curzon Ashton.
"Losing Paul is a big disappointment," says O'Brien. "But I will be looking to bring in quality replacements."
Another defender Lee Bowles has also announced his decision to leave Alder House.
Atherton LR are at home to Alsager in Division Two.
