SINCE when has there been a minimum donation when giving to charity?
I ask this because last Saturday I was about to purchase a Remembrance Day poppy in my local supermarket when I noticed that the vendors had had the temerity to put a notice in the tray of poppies.
It read as follows: "A donation of at least £1 each please". The fact that it said 'please' is irrelevant.
Though I've never personally had to call on this organisation for assistance, as an ex-service man I can fully appreciate the sterling work they do, but whatever happened to 'all donations gratefully received'?
I suppose next year I can look forward to being confronted by the local boy scout group and being told that it's 'a fiver a job week'.
