I AGREE with the comments of Don Tonge, regarding the old Bolton fire station.
I and other members of the family were also under the impression (due to comments made by the Council) that, when the building was going to be rebuilt, the front facade was going to be kept intact!
There is no historical or conservation value in keeping a few bricks somewhere in a new building. The building's entire worth was in its brick frontage; this is what gave it historical and architectural value, and should not have been torn down.
They could easily have done the same as they did to Radcliffe Town Hall. From the front you can't tell there have been any changes, yet round the back it is a brand-new building. I think it is just another disgusting example of officialdom lying to the public in order to get their own way and line their pockets. There has been too much destruction of our history in the last 20/30 years. Bolton already has little to attract visitors, and can't afford to lose any more.
