FURTHER to my letters published in 'Your Views' on October 30 and November 8 regarding roadworks.

The extremely condescending comments from Tony Boddy (ex-local government) on November 14 just confirms my premise that these officials (past or present), are indeed from another planet. Mr Boddy's letter confirms that they cannot even read and understand English.

Yes, I complained about the enormous expense of Moss Bank Way. There was no need to widen a two-lane highway and destroy all those trees, when it was already wide enough for one lane plus cycle lane. My complaint about Chorley New Road was also misconstrued by Mr Boddy. Chorley New Road was changed into a one-lane road ages ago. Perhaps somebody would explain to Mr Boddy that my complaint was the cost of erecting new posts every 100 yards with pictures, and painting pretty pictures on the road surface.

Nowhere in my letters can I see any complaint about reducing either road to one lane in the interests of safety. Perhaps only aliens can see things that aren't there? On re-reading my letters, all I, as a mere mortal, can see is a complaint about the waste of money. At least Mr Boddy acknowledges that the block paving of car lay-bys is an extravagance.

Maybe it's time to enlighten Mr Boddy on his fallacious statement that -- "the scheme was paid for out of European Money -- not our money." Does he not know that the only money Europe and the Government have comes from taxing the people? Not our money, Mr Boddy? Apparently not on your planet.

There was no need to be so arrogant and derogatory in your remarks, Mr Boddy. (incidentally, I object to being called 'Rita' by somebody who I don't know) especially when you obviously didn't understand what I was saying in the first place.

A final thought on the Victoria Road repairs. When the road is finally completed, wouldn't it make sense for two lanes of traffic coming down to Chorley New Road -- designated to right turn and straight on -- rather than the present system of two lanes going up? The only use going up seems to be for overtaking slow-moving vehicles, and to change it round would surely alleviate the traffic build-up on one lane, which only goes into two lanes about 100 yards from the lights.

Maybe the powers-that-be could also arrange a filter light for traffic turning right from the west on to Victoria Road. This could operate at the same time as traffic from the east turning into Beaumont Road. There is a designated lane, but no time allocated at present.
