A BOLTON bobby at the centre of a police probe into alleged charity cash irregularities protested his innocence today.
PC Mark Slater, 39, and special constable Christine Perry were arrested on Saturday as a team of senior officers investigated concerns about money collected in memory of a Bolton policeman who died of cancer.
Up to 800 people attended the memorial event for Sgt Clive Holmyard, which was held at Club Eden last November and raised money for cancer charities.
Now concerns have been raised about cash - believed to be between £2,000 and £3,000 - which was collected from the event.
PC Slater and special constable Perry have both been suspended as the police inquiry continues.
But today, speaking at his Bradshaw home, PC Slater, told the BEN: "I have done nothing wrong."
Earlier this morning, a woman at Christine's Perry's home, in Tonge Moor, refused to comment about the police probe.
A GMP spokesman confirmed that two officers had been arrested in connection with the charity cash allegations, and had been released on police bail.
It is understood officers from GMP's internal affairs bureau are now investigating the matter and a report will be filed to the Crown Prosecution Service.
