ELECTRICAL Services look like taking over were they left off last year, in the Monday Fifth.

They were edged out on the last day of the season which denied them promotion but this season they do not want a repeat and have decided to take the league by the scruff of its neck.

Their second game of the season brought them up against a team that should also be challenging for honours, Three Nations. The game lived up to its expectation with the sides only being separated by the odd touch of magic. Electrical Services however had the extra spark and won the game 11-9 thus putting them to the top of the division.

To prove that the leagues are more competitive we have witnessed quite a few low scoring games. Last week we saw a 4-2 in one of our premier leagues and this week we saw Heaton Hammer take on Pennine FC.

The game flowed from end to end with some breathtaking football being played, but without any final outcome either through great keeping or unfortunate finishing.

As the game progressed both sides were willing to chance it that much more than in the first half, this led the game to become for a short while, free scoring.

This atmosphere was maintained until five minutes from the end when Pennine were one up. They decided to sit back and soak up the pressure; this was working to an extent that Heaton were taking potshots from distance. Pennine would have, but superb pieces of skill meant that Heaton were back on level terms at 4-4, meaning that both teams took a share of the spoils in the fourth division game.

Fletchers were looking on top of the world after their win on the opening day of the season in the Wednesday premier. However they were about to come down with a bump. They came up against last year's winners Breightmet Dons who were in no mood to relinquish their crown. Breightmet Dons fast flowing football was to eventually lead to them winning 9-6.

For teams who were unsuccessful in getting into the leagues this time be assured that the waiting list is run on a first come first served basis.

However there will be a one off tournament being run on the November 22 for teams on that list. Games will be run on a round robin basis followed by a knock out stage. A trophy will be presented to the winning team. The tournament will start at 7.30pm.
