TOWN twinning was always intended as an opportunity for ordinary people across the world to get to know and appreciate each other better.
Useful off-shoots included an exchange of knowledge, facilities and business. Unfortunately, original intentions are sometimes forgotten, and we certainly feel that broadening Bolton's links with Le Mans and Paderborn is a step in the right direction.
As the town celebrates 25 years of its German partnership, the time is absolutely right to give town twinning back to the people.
We await with interest exactly how this is translated into actions, but certainly support the principle.
