REGARDING recent road crashes.

Ninety five per cent of crashes are caused by the driver, a few by mechanical defects, and maybe the odd one related to the road layout.

Most drivers drive on their reactions, only responding to hazards when they happen, instead of anticipating potential hazards and having some sort of driving plan.

Road improvements may help, but in my opinion driver education is the key.

Instead of driving along concentrating on the radio or talking on the mobile phone, why not take a fresh look at your driving, we can all improve, the perfect driver does not exist.

Ask yourself questions like 'am I too close to the vehicle in front', 'am I in the correct position for this next bend', 'is my speed appropriate for the circumstances'.

In any case, driving doesn't have to be a chore, it can be very enjoyable, and, above all, it can be safe.
