MR Ken Bromley is quite right to draw attention to the 'second class status' attitude towards the annual exhibition by the members of the Bolton Art Circle (BEN: November 14).
I made a similar point some years ago to the Gallery personnel regarding the inadequacy of space allocation, which at the time was shared with another type of local exhibition. In contrast, I highlighted the town of Bury, which put a whole gallery at the disposal of their local artists. I also suggested that consideration be given to making a purchase from B.A.C.'s annual exhibition to add to Bolton's permanent collection for the benefit of posterity. What about acquiring the wonderful 'ship' picture currently on show?
Bolton Art Circle is a prestigious society with a high standard of exhibitors and deserves to be afforded facilities to reflect this. To have one's otherwise meritorious work rejected through lack of space is most unjust.
Let's hope the Art Gallery listens and rectifies this unsatisfactory situation in respect of future displays.
