TWO ex-Wanderers stars with the same nickname had contrasting fortunes at the weekend.
Celtic midfielder Alan Thompson suffered a miserable Old Firm derby yesterday when he was red carded in his side's 5-1 defeat at Ibrox for two bookable offences.
But 24 hours earlier, a 'Tommo' from a different era, former Burnden Park playmaker Steve, reached the brink of a personal landmark when he scored his 99th league goal.
The 36-year-old struck for Halifax in the 48th minute to put the Third Division's second bottom club ahead against leaders Chesterfield in a game that ended all square at 2-2.
Veteran Thompson played for 10 seasons at Burnden Park before moving on to Luton, Leicester, Burnley, Rotherham and finally Halifax in a career which has seen him make more than 600 senior appearances.
