Wanderers hit rock bottom of the Premiership as they went down by a single goal at Southampton.
The side's hell at the Dell was compounded as Alan Thompson had a goal disallowed in the 83rd minute leaving them at the bottom of ther peremiership with eight points from 15 games.
Yet for all that there was some promise of better things to come as the Wanderers displayed some of their best form of the season.
They certainly did not get the rub of the green from ref Peter Jones, who besides ruling out Thompson's effort, denied them a penalty after Sasa Curcic had been brought down.

A 1-0 win at Grimsby confirmed Wanderers as Third Division promotion candidates.
Scott Green's 24th minute header swept aside Alan Buckley's side, who had been beaten only once in the league since gaining promotion from the Fourth Division..
In the end Grimsby were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty after Julian Darby had tackled Shaun Cunnington in the penalty area but Wanderers almost had the final say as a shot from Paul Comstive went close.
The result saw Wanderers become the first side to net all three points from the fishing town earning them the Barclays Performance of the Week award.

THE Match of the Day cameras were at Burnden for the first time that season as Wanderers, unbeaten in 16 games, faced West Brom in a Second Division game.
And as always happens when there's a chance to impress the rest of the country with their recent form, Wanderers came unstuck and were beaten 2-1.
It started badly with Joe Mayo stunning the biggest crowd so far that season - 18, 710 - when he headed the Baggies into a fifth minute lead but Roy Greaves was perfectly placed to nod in Peter Reid's neatly executed chip.
The game was settled in the 74th minute when Bryan Robson finished off a fine move, shooting past keeper Barry Siddall.
