FOLLOWING the publication of my recent letter on the subject of fixed penalties being issued to disabled drivers, I have received several telephone calls from victims of the Bolton Metro ruling covering the display of the blue badge.
In that letter, I concluded by saying that I had written to the Assistant Director of Parking Services, expressing my views and disquiet about these rules. The letter was dated October 31, and I referred him to a Bolton Metro spokesman of having replied to the BEN, in which he stated that no complaints had been received about the actions of the traffic wardens working for APCOA.
I made the point that my letter would be the first. To date, no reply has been received, in spite of the fact that I expressed my hope that he would do so, unless a letter dated November 17, and signed by the Customer Service Officer, which reads 'I acknowledge receipt of your payment and the case is now closed!' was originated by him.
May I say to all the disabled drivers who have contacted me, and others who have received fixed penalties, I have received a letter from Ruth Kelly MP advising me that she will be approaching the Chief Executive of Bolton Council on this matter and that she will forward his reply.
In concluding, I would like to thank the BEN for the publicity it has given to this thorny subject and I hope they will continue to do so.
