PART of Deansgate in Bolton will be closed for up to two days while demolition work is carried out at Marsden House, the town's former fire station headquarters.
The site is being redeveloped as town centre apartments. The move follows a meeting involving the Health and Safety Executive, the council's highways engineers, police and Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive who have decided that part of the road between Marsden Road and Blackhorse Street should be closed for safety reasons.
To try to minimise congestion Deansgate will be closed to westbound (outbound) traffic and inbound traffic will run on the opposite side of the road. Westbound traffic will be diverted via Blackhorse Street, Ormrod Street and Moor Lane.
The temporary closure will come into force from 9.30am on Wednesday and is scheduled to last two days though the work could be completed in one.
