PUPILS have been excluded from Bury CE High School for smoking cannabis.
The seven Year 10 pupils -- all boys -- were caught with the Class B drug in the school last Thursday.
Phil Grady, headteacher at the Haslam Brow school, said: "They have been given fixed-term exclusions.
"All the boys' parents have been into school and are fully supportive of the action.
"We take a very strong line on pupils who bring drugs into school and our investigations are continuing into who supplied the cannabis.
"If it is discovered it was one of the seven boys who supplied it, then they could face the possibility of being excluded from the school permanently."
Harold Williams, Bury's chief education officer, is fully behind the school's stance.
He said: "It shows how vigilant our schools have to be.
"The school has acted in a quick and responsible way for which it should be praised."
