TEMPEST United moved into third place in the West Lancs League Division One table with a 5-4 away win at Lancashire Constabulary.
That put them seven points adrift of current leaders Carnforth Rangers with four games in hand, although undoubtedly the main title challenge is second placed Blackpool Wren Rovers, five points in front of United from the same number of games played.
On Saturday the Chew Moor lads enjoyed a glorious last quarter of an hour as they came back from a 4-2 deficit to take all three points of the police side.
The Constabulary had opened the scoring on 15 minutes but United hit back with Sean Whorlow scoring twice. Honours were even at the break on 2-2 but a double strike from the home team left United looking well out of it until the 75th minute.
Whorlow completed hit hat-trick to make it 4-3 and within minutes substitute Andy Clarke levelled. On 87 minutes Lee Holden headed home a corner at the far post for a 5-4 win described by Alan Westhead as "incredible".
"We looked down and out but the lads just stuck at it and we got the result," says the United club chairman. "It could prove to be a very important win for us. The pitch was really heavy and we had to battle hard all through the game so we deserved that result.
"The most pleasing aspect for us was the return to from of Sean Whorlow. The lad joined us from Sunday football at the start of the season and scored a lot of goals early on. But then he picked up an injury and has been out for two months. He's worked really, really hard in training to get back to fitness and on Saturday he was head and shoulders our man of the match."
