Bolton Wanderers Youth 2, Swindon Town Youth 1

WANDERERS youth team came through their Axa FA Youth Cup third round tie against Swindon Town at The Reebok Stadium last night's thanks to an 86th minute winner from Chris McDonagh.

In a game of two halves it was the Wanderers who had the better of the first session, Swindon hitting back to level before Bolton's late decider.

Bolton went ahead in the 26th minute. Centre forward Michael Bird struck a magnificent free kick from 25 yards that flew past the helpless Swindon 'keeper Craig Farr.

Both Michael Eckersley and Chris Downey went close to increasing the lead before the interval.

Swindon got on top and equalised in the 62nd minute when Alan young was given the time and space to shoot home.

In the 78th minute, Paul Anderson struck the bar for Swindon as they pressed for a winner, but the Wanderers held on.

They were rewarded four minutes from time when McDonalgh ran forward to unleash an unstoppable 25-yarder low into the corner of the net..
