THE expected rise in commercial property following the M60's completion could fuel a surge in companies signing potentially damaging leases.
This warning comes from Bill Grebenar, a commercial property specialist at the Manchester office of national law firm Rowe & Cohen. He said: "When new commercial property becomes available, there is a great temptation amongst many businesses to rush in and sign the lease without consulting a professional adviser.
"Manchester's property scene remains buoyant and the newly completed section of the M60,will undoubtedly create new commercial opportunities.
"Without a professional adviser, however, the prospective tenant could unknowingly sign something that heavily favours the landlord. On the other hand, even if the lease is fair, it might be possible to negotiate more favourable terms and conditions."
Bill added: "Getting an expert to look over your lease might sound obvious, but it's surprising just how many businesses don't.
"The terms and conditions of a lease can have a major impact on the future well being of a company -- so don't be tempted to cut corners."
