DETECTIVES will mingle with clubbers tonight as the hunt for a shaven headed gunman who shot two Bolton revellers continues.
Police officers will join hundreds of customers outside the Atlantis nightclub a week after two men were gunned down in front of the premises, speaking to clubbers and handing out fly posters.
The late-night operation comes a day after the BEN revealed that the man who pulled the trigger, wounding two men aged 27 and 19, is still on the loose.
Chief Insp Dave Wolstenholme, from Astley Bridge police station, said: "There will be a police pod down at the nightclub and officers will be speaking to people and handing out flyers.
"We want to see if anybody there will come forward with more information about the shooting."
Today police chiefs confirmed a second man had been charged in connection with the Atlantis shooting.
Mohammed Naweed Anwar, 30, of Catterick Drive, Little Lever, was due before Bolton magistrates today on two assault charges prior to the shooting.
A third man, quizzed by detectives about the Astley Bridge shooting, has been released on police bail.
And today detectives issued details of the Atlantis gunman, who is white, in his 20s or 30s, heavily built, with a shaven head and was wearing a fleece type jacket.
Officers are also keen to speak to anyone who saw a black Toyota Celica sports car, registration P389THR, either in the area of the club or elsewhere after the shooting.
And the hunt is on for anyone who may have seen a silver BMW 523i car, registration R8JFB, near to the club or around the town in the last two weeks.
The high-profile police operation on the Bolton North sub-division comes as GMP colleagues on the neighbouring Bolton town centre patch prepare to increase patrols at the weekend.
It follows a separate shooting at the Temple nightclub on St George's Street, last Friday, in which a 31-year-old doorman supervisor was blasted three times in the legs.
Detectives are still trying to trace that attacker who struck at 11.30pm. They are not connecting the two club shootings.
Police marksmen, in a GMP Armed Response Vehicle, will once again patrol Bolton's streets as part of the operation, with Tactical Aid Unit officers also being drafted in once again to offer extra support.
Chief Insp Alan Greene, from Bolton Central, said: "There will be increased activity around the town centre following the shooting. An Armed Response Vehicle will be on patrol again this weekend."
Divisional bosses have refused to put a time-scale on the increased police activity which will help reassure Bolton revellers, in the wake of the double shootings.
Witnesses to the Atlantis shooting are urged to contact Astley Bridge CID on 0161 856 5740/5751.
And anyone with information about the Temple incident is asked to ring Bolton Central CID on 0161 856 5640.
