MAY I say, after all the rain we have had and everywhere being absolutely sodden, what a brilliant idea it was to have a cycle race on grass in Queens Park yesterday.

One can only wonder at the mentality yet again of Bolton Town Council for allowing this. It is now an eyesore for the many people who use this park on a daily basis, the grass has now been churned up and deep ridges caused by the cycle tyres -- mud everywhere.

To have a cycle race in a public park anyway is sheer lunacy. I would have thought it most dangerous, as this park is well used at all times of the day.

The organisers and cycle riders will probably, like the town councillors, not use the park again, so they will avoid looking at the destruction they have caused. Why couldn't it have been held in Horwich, ie Rivington.

As a responsible dog owner, like many of my friends who use this park, we clean up after our dogs. But it is not the dogs who cause the mess on the park, it is the drunks who break beer bottles, leave empty cans etc, the vandals who rip the plants up, upturn the forms, the drug addicts who carelessly discard used syringes, the perverts who frequent the toilets or hide in the bushes, and now added to the list -- the cyclists.
