FANS of Bolton Wanderers FC are still keeping the club's cup interest alive by winning through to the quarter-finals of the Worthington Fives competition.
The Bolton Five had an impressive 16-0 victory over the Leicester City Five when fourth round matches were contested recently in Manchester. They will now face the West Ham Five on Sunday January 21.
The Worthington Fives is the first amateur tournament that gives fans the chance to represent their nominated professional club in a national five-a-side competition. As well as playing in the Worthington Cup Final as a curtain raiser to the Worthington Cup in February, the Worthington Fives champions will also receive an all-expense paid trip to Europe, just as the Worthington Cup winners gain a place in Europe, in the UEFA Cup.
Fourth Round matches were held on Sunday October 29 at the Powerleague Centre in Manchester. The venue for the Quarter and Semi-Final Rounds (Sunday January 21 2001) will be confirmed at a later date. The Worthington Fives Final will be played as a curtain raiser before the Worthington Cup Final on Sunday February 25 2001.
