MORE than 100 burglary victims living near Bolton town centre will be visited by police as part of a three-month break-in blitz.
The project, launched this week, runs to the end of February.
It has been boosted by £20,000 Government cash to help improve security on houses in the Haulgh which have been targeted by burglars.
The money, provided from the Single Regeneration Budget, will help secure homes near St Peter's Way.
PC Steve Openshaw, GMP's crime reduction adviser for the Bolton South division, said: "This programme will help to reduce the risk of people in this area becoming repeat victims of domestic burglary by ensuring their homes have the correct security measures to deter thieves.
"Among the many devices our officers will check are locks on windows and doors. We believe if people are made more security conscious, it will make areas safer and encourage new developments."
The scheme comes following recent success with similar projects in Deane, Daubhill, Farnworth and Tonge Moor.
A scheme in Tonge Moor, including part of the Breightmet New Lane estate, has slashed break-ins by a quarter in a year.
