Lostock produced one of their best performances of the season to beat quality opposition in Ormskirk 18-5 away.

Lostock were dominant for most of the match. The visitors' back row was superb with man of the match Steve Leonard awesome breaking the gain line at will and putting in some ferocious tackling.

Lostock scored their first try midway through the half. The ball came out from a scrum to the backs who used it well drawing in their men before releasing outside centre Dave Kelly to power over in the corner.

From here on it was all Lostock pressure and the remainder of the half was spent in home territory. Ormskirk never found an answer to the powerful Lostock running and this was shown with the visitors' second try.

Scrum half Andy Mercer, who was unlucky not to get man of the match, danced his way through the home defence to score an excellent try. The only disappointment of the half was the Lostock scrimmaging.

Missing some of the regular front five Lostock came up against a big and strong Ormskirk scrimmaging machine and were second best for much of the contest.

As seems the norm this season Lostock started the second period slowly and the game ground down a bit in the middle of the pitch.

However Mercer soon changed that. From a scrum that was going backwards on half way the scrum half picked up from the base and totally out paced Ormskirk's defenders to score in the corner.

This must have been heart-breaking for the hosts to have so much dominance in the scrimmage yet still concede a try from it.

Lostock once again failed to show their killer instincts and took their foot off the pedal. They got the wake up call they needed when Ormskirk surprised them to score their only try.

From a scrum near the visitors' line the home flanker, looking suspiciously off-side charged down Nicholls kick and won the race to touch down the loose ball over the try line.

Lostock started to play, they had several chances to go further in front but some desperate defence along with Lostock men trying to score individual tries when others were better placed outside them kept the score down.

They scored their last points with a Nicholls penalty but were unlucky again in the final minute when the referee cancelled out a try for captain Goodwin for a forward pass. All in all a good performance setting them up nicely for three tough league games in succession.

Lostock's seconds were also at Ormskirk and gave a well drilled home side some serious opposition before finally going down 20-5.

Lostock's next match is away at league leaders Lytham.
