WHILE I appreciate that the town centre shops are doing their best to attract people into Bolton for Christmas shopping, I feel that many adults will be put off by the 'carbuncle' that is now blighting our smart new (and expensive) Town Hall Square.

The 'tent' housing the ice rink obscures the view of the Town Hall, Christmas Tree and lights and, of course, the much maligned fountains. It adds nothing to the atmosphere and appearance of the square.

Our planners should follow the example of New York and have an ice rink that is aesthetically pleasing and not a blot on the landscape, as is the one in Bolton.

Perhaps, as Andrew Dickson says, money would be better spent on cleaning up the filthy streets to encourage people to come into Bolton.
