AS a campaigner for the NSPCC, I wish to draw your readers' attention to the need for a Children's Commissioner in England to stop cruelty to children -- FULL STOP.
The National Assembly for Wales has already created a Commissioner for Children in Wales, yet the UK Government's current policy does not give the same protection to English children.
The Government is pushing for a Children's Rights Director to look after the needs of children in care. Although this is a step in the right direction, research shows that the majority of child abuse happens in the family environment. Surely, we need to prevent children being taken into care in the first place?
We owe it to the next generation to bring pressure to bear on the Government to set up an independent Children's Commissioner. I would urge your readers to write to their MP pointing out the difference between the treatment of English children compared to their Welsh contemporaries.
