I WOULD like to support the BEN for its stand in the Opinion column (Nov 9) regarding the ex-drug baron Howard Marks and his one-man show appearing at Bolton's Albert Halls.
I am informed that this man was once one of the largest distributors of cannabis in the world and, when caught in America, was given a 25-year prison sentence. The Bolton councillors who decided to allow this show to go ahead have probably done more damage than good for the young of Bolton. I personally believe that hero-worshipping and listening to this man boasting about how he got pleasure in smuggling drugs into the country is very unhealthy.
Doctor Brian Iddon, MP for Bolton South East, already known for his obsession for promoting the legalisation of certain drugs, also supported this undesirable act. The misery that drugs can cause and the death of many young people should be proof enough.
The sooner Dr Iddon and Howard Marks are removed from positions where they can influence society, the better for all.
