CHRISTMAS cards and letters for friends and relatives overseas must be sent within the next few days, Royal Mail bosses have warned.

The last recommended posting date for air mail to destinations outside Europe is tomorrow and mail to people in Europe must be posted by next Thursday, December 14.

Monday December 18 is the last date that Christmas greetings should be sent by second class in the UK and the date for last posting by first class is Thursday December 21.

More than 200 million cards and letters were posted in the North-west during the four weeks before Christmas last year.

And the Royal Mail is using an extra 2,000 vehicles and 31 flights using the Skynet service to make sure festive mail arrives on time following on going disruption to rail services.
