A Horwich pensioner is calling on Royal Mail bosses to help the community by restoring the parcel-collection point at the town's post office.

Muriel Angus, of Lee Lane, has always collected parcels which could not be delivered to her home from the Crown Lane post office.

But since the new state-of-the-art delivery office opened at Middlebrook in October, any post which cannot be delivered in Horwich is kept there.

Muriel, 73, fears people without their own transport might find it difficult to reach the Middlebrook site which is a considerable walk from the nearest bus stop.

Customers can opt for their parcels to be re-delivered instead of making their own way to the new depot. But if they need the item of post the same day, it could prove difficult.

Muriel, who has lived in Horwich for 13 years, recently wanted to collect a parcel from the Middlebrook site and needed a lift from a friend to get there.

She said: "I was due to go away a couple of days later and wanted the parcel before I went away.

"If someone wants to get their package on the same day that the postman can't deliver it, then they will find it difficult to get to Middlebrook from Horwich without their own transport.

"It was much easier when parcels could be collected from the post office in Horwich."

Wendy Martin from the Royal Mail said: "Systems have changed but we want to make it easier and not harder for customers.

"Anyone needing a parcel should call us and if there is time that day we will take it back.

"Deliveries have been altered to the customers' convenience and the simplest thing is to call the delivery office and they will take the parcel back."
