IN recent days there has been mention of the change of name for the Rovers Return in Coronation Street.
I was not as surprised at the choice of 'The Boozy Newt' as I was some time ago when, driving through the lovely resort of Lytham, my daughter exclaimed -- "oh, no", and I saw the sign on the Queens Hotel on East Beach had been removed to display 'The Rat and Parrot'.
Suffice it to say I was just horrified -- as the residents had been. Apparently, they had all been loud in their displeasure and had protested through the local gazette, to no avail.
It seems that, as ever, money talks, and it went ahead. Remembering lovely pub lunches in gracious surroundings, it seemed very sad. But, today, it's progress.
Lytham still retains much of its original charm and a leisurely quality of life, but is up against modern trends.
