BRITISH, English, and Christendom, should not be looked upon as a Holy Trinity, and I'm certain that not everyone shares the severe views expressed by Grenville Moore in his response to S Musa.

Christians certainly do not hold the monopoly on patriotism, and any person that walks any land on this planet is there by the grace of God, they have religions to which they were indoctrinated, and are completely entitled to such religions.

That said I personally believe that all religion is detrimental to humanity, and the more I read such retrogressive letters by Mr Moore and others with similar views, the greater this belief is enforced.

We are by history a hybrid race, Britons are not true blue-bloods but a mix of many races, creeds, and dare I say, religions. Vikings, Romans, French and Dutch to name but a few who have visited these shores at one time or another, bringing with them their own cultures, traditions, and beliefs, and gradually transforming these Islands into the unique place that they are now.

We should not keep harping back to the colonial times, they are part of our past history to which we should be rightly proud. The seeds of our present society were sown then, so if the peoples from these countries now wish to settle here, we should not expect them to abandon their lifestyle.

I am sure that if for some reason Mr Moore had to relocate to a Moslem country he would have no desire to abandon his Christian beliefs. (I am told though, that it is illegal to have other faiths in some Islamic states.) On his point on sending a Christian army to fight for other countries, this is a multi-faith country and we have defended many countries in the past more recently in Kosovo, but essentially any crusade would be against religious ethics. There can surely be no such thing as a 'Holy war' or 'Jihad' depending on your faith, as this would fly in the face of both sets of religious values.

There has been a lack of trust between these two principal religions for many hundreds of years now, so perhaps it would be a good time to come to a mutual understanding and live together in harmony. After all they do share a great deal of similarities such as holy sites, but perhaps more importantly the same god.
