CHORLEY were outclassed by a better organised, fitter and faster team in Saturday's encounter at Wigan.
Wigan took the playing conditions, still poor after last month's prolonged wet spell, in their stride as they crossed Chorley's line four times in the first half and two in the second.Wigan's defence was always too good and Chorley finished the game without points.
Chorley, fielding a scratch side, made a sluggish start to the game and Wigan soon capitalised, breaking through the midfield for an individual try.
This was the story of the first half -- periods of scrappy play followed by crucial breaks culminating in Wigan scores. Wigan converted two of their tries to lead 24-0 at half time.
Wigan scored again early in the second half, but then Chorley regrouped and held their own for about 30 minutes in their best period of the game.
Wigan continued to look threatening on the break, however, and they finished the game in style with a try just before the final whistle.
Chorley flanker Tony Riley was full of praise for Wigan after the match, but also paid tribute to his own side for refusing to lie down in defeat.
Chorley are back in league action at Thornton Cleveleys this Saturday. The 'A' team play Thornton at home, kick off 2.30pm.
