I READ with interest your story in The Citizen with regard to the pedestrianisation of Market Street.
It is wrong to say that buses do not off load near the town centre as they do so at the bottom of St Georges Street and certain town services off load at the bottom of George Street, and also at the corner of Clifford Street.
It does not seem to me too much of a hardship to walk from these points to the centre of town, as Chorley town centre does not cover such a wide area and the times when vehicles are allowed in the pedestrianised areas are very generous anyway.
It would appear that people expect the almighty car and bus to rule over everything and pedestrians have no rights at all. I would also point out that Chorley is remarkably well served by car parks, many of which are within easy walking distance of the shops in the town centre.
Surely the impaired look of Market Street and the surrounding areas is a small price to pay for the relatively small inconvenience of having to walk a short distance?
